Pulau Ketam

July 03 2010 - C.I.S. a.k.a. 狂影 2nd trip to Pulau Ketam a.k.a. 吉丹岛. As usual we arrive at our meet up point @ 7am. After breakfast at Steven's Corner we head out to Port Klang. The traffic was smooth from KL to Port Klang, but I spoke too soon. Before reaching to Port Klang, there was a heavy jam at Pulau Indah. It took us almost 1/2 hour trap in the jam. There was an overturned contena truck. We arrived at the port around 9.15am. The old Jetty to Pulau Ketam was closed. According to the locals there it is due to the Jetty is replaced with a new Jetty nearby. We made it in time for the 1st ferry @ 9.45am.

The ferry took us around 45 minutes to reach at Pulau Ketam. I was amazed to see houses above the sea level are all still in good shape. It seems like going back into time. The place is very old fashion, a very "kampung" style. The team were very excited upon reaching the port. We were so anxious to discover what is in for us.

The place looks a bit old fashioned. The people there most of it are old folks are very kind. Upon arriving to the island you obviously can notice one thing. There is no Cars and no Motorcycles. Their transportation = Bicycle.

Around the town you can find plenty of old stuff. Stuff that is only available 20 years ago. There is a lot of temples in the island as well. Which shows that the people here are very religious. There are around 14 temples, which makes Chinese is the majority people staying there.

The Seafood there was very cheap and fresh. We ate at Kia Hong Haun Seafood restaurant nearby the market & the police station. Our 1st dish was the Fried Osyter with eggs. It was very delicious. It felt like the one I had during my old times in Muar, Johor. The clams were quite big & the price RM8 for small, RM10 for medium & RM12 for large. Of course we took the large one to fill all our team members taste buds.

We order a set menu RM170 with 1kg of crabs but we requested for an additional 1kg which cost only additional RM30 enough to fill 9 adults + 1 kid.

Next on our set menu was the “Lai Liu Ha” Mantis Shrimp Sweet Sour. The freshness of the shrimp and the taste is really good. Compare to the ones we had in KL, the ones that we have here is worth the price.

The next item came was the fish ball soup. Wow the fishball is really good.

Steam "Lala" or steam clam was our next dish. The clam was quite big and the clam meat was delicious. We ordered the clams to be steam with chilies. It tastes just nice, not too spicy.

Fried squid & Fried Prawns with butter. It looks to be normal dish that we order, but the freshness of the squid & prawns are speechless. The prawns was big & yummy. We really have to salute the chef.

Our last 3 dishes veggies, steam fish & the crabs (a must to order when you are at the "crab" island).

In short, you must try the seafood in Pulau Ketam. For a price of RM200 we spent is priceless. The freshness of seafood is really worth it. The villagers there is also very friendly.

I hope you enjoy as well the trip to Pulau Ketam. C.I.S. a.k.a. 狂影 enjoyed the trip with a budget of RM75 per person the trip and the food is well worth.
